● The left side of the brain is responsible for language for 85% of people.

● Aphasia happens as a result of damage to this language centre in the brain.

● Broca’s aphasia occurs when Brocas’s area in the brain is damaged.

● Broca’s area is close to the part of the brain responsible for movement of the face, hand and arm. So, if Broca’s area is damaged, it is likely that the area responsible for movement will be damaged too.  So patients with Broca’s aphasia will almost alway have weakness or be paralysed in these areas.

●Wernicke’s Aphasia is caused by damage to Wernicke’s area.
